Belated

Belated thanks to Kendra for the sweet early birthday gift she sent me! She gave me [this] calendar, I’ve always wanted a prim one and I have plans to display and love the photos beyond 2012.

I also won a free pattern from Old Road Primitives! I was one of the lucky ones to be up late when OLP had a quick giveaway in February.

I had a birthday on March 24, and the day totally sucked. The end. :)

Update on the fire: it is 97% contained, yay! There are 500 firefighters trying to put it out, the terrain makes it difficult. It doesn’t help that it was windy today. Wind was the culprit that started the fire, from a controlled burn! Three people perished and I think it was 27 structures damaged or destroyed. The Sheriff posted some pictures taken last Monday. Wow.

Our mountains are on fire, prayers please!

Our mountains are on fire, please pray! We had nasty winds yesterday, the fire burned over 4,000 acres yesterday, some homes have been destroyed, two people have died. There is a lot of livestock and homes spread out in this area. It’s scary, especially with the very little snow we got in winter. There is also a beetle that has been killing trees so there is lots of dead trees mixed in with the green ones. It’s a bit early for rain yet, but I’m praying for it, or snow. More wind is expected this evening.

Where we are, we should be okay, it’s pretty well south-east of Evergreen if you were to look at a map. I didn’t sleep well last night, worried about the fire and the people, their animals, and the responders. And some other personal information that has nothing to do with the fire that I just found out yesterday evening. sigh!

They keep updating this page, but there is an aerial photo.

Stitching and Baking

Had a great night with some women friends at our old church. It’s always a blessing to have fellowship. :)

I made oatmeal raisin and oatmeal craisin cookies to share with the women. I got the recipe from the PAFA blog. The cookies turned out yummy! (I replaced some of the white flour with wheat. I replaced the butter with crisco, because butter in cookies at this altitude turns them into cow patties. I also had to add in some water because the dough was too dry, but that’s another altitude problem. I also omitted the clove and just used cinnamon because I have no clove.)

I’ve been slowly working on Mittens Each Day. I can’t wait to get it done!

I also made two loaves of Grandmother Bread. Suzanne at Chickens in the Road has awesome recipes. I didn’t get a photo of my bread, but you can see what it looks like at Suzanne’s blog. (I substituted one of the cups of white flour with wheat flour.)

It was a hot day, the weather is up and down lately. Spring has sprung and the elk and deer are around more often again. They are eating up all the green that is trying to poke out of the ground. Soon it will be time for them to have babies. I love spring! :)

Please keep my family in your prayers! Thank you!

Another Prayer Request

Today was sunny and warm, for the most part, till the breeze got chilly in late afternoon. I got to open some windows, that was awesome. Spring is almost here.

I am excited about the time change this weekend. I am all for days where it doesn’t turn to dusk at 4pm (only half an hour after the kids get home from school!) during the non DST days. However, I also don’t care for the days when it doesn’t get dark till 9pm. I think it should get dark at 8pm, when the kids go to bed. ;) Then they can’t complain that it’s still light outside when it’s their bedtime. I wish we could come up with a better strategy for balancing the daylight hours. Switching it around twice a year is lame. IMO.

My family needs your prayers, again. I can’t blog about it yet, but to us it’s pretty big as it forces us to change a lot. It’s not good. Today I felt the JOY that God is in control and He loves us, which is better than what I have felt the last two days. (It’s not sickness, don’t want to worry anyone.)

p.s. The blog header is from a photo I took at White Fence Farm, a restaurant our friends treated us to for my birthday last year. :)

Feb 14

Is it spring yet? The last two days have been warmer with sunshine. The three feet of snow from the last storm is melting away, slowly.

I am eager to start a wonderful winter pattern called Mittens Each Day. It was released last month, go take a peek! I just love it. I have the fabric cut out and waiting, but don’t have all the thread for it yet. I will start on it and hope I can get the other thread sometime soon. Getting the pattern last month was a very special treat for me.

Today I did some housework that I got behind on when I wasn’t feeling well with tooth pain. I even crafted. *gasp* yes really. I haven’t crafted in quite some time. I’m still working on bday and Christmas gifts for a certain friend who always gets my gifts late. *ahem* LOL. Now that I am not on pills 24/7 for pain, I keep getting headaches. I can’t wait for myself to get back to normal.

Happy V-day :)
